CFRP Torque Shaft for a 3.6 MW Offshore Wind Turbine
Schaefer MWN has developed a 8.6 metre CFRP torque shaft for use in the new dual-blade ENVISON 3.6 MW offshore wind turbine. The torque shaft was developed in cooperation with the German Composites Institute (IVW) which is based in Kaiserslautern, Germany. Thanks to its innovative, patent-pending design and manufacturing concept, the torque shaft enables the direct transmission of torque from the rotor to the generator and allows for a flexible absorbation of displacements and axial offsets.
Schaefer MWN manufactured the first prototype in the summer of 2012. This prototype is now being tested in the ENVISON wind test field off the Danish coast near Thyborøn.
